Tyrannosaurus RX

Recently I was introduced to the wonderful iZotope RX 6 | Noise Reduction & Audio Repair Software. It's been an absolute game changer for me. This powerful software allows audio repair and clean up on the spectral level.

Application

The first track on my upcoming EP is going to be called Contemplate. The inspiration for this track comes from one of my favourite spots on the planet. It's a beautiful spot on the side of the Toowoomba range. Every morning at sunrise the insects come alive and the last time I was there I decided to make a few recordings. There was a large fan in the background that was colouring my recording as well as some other noises I wanted to remove. Check out the videos below for my cleanup process for these audio files.

I'm especially proud of the removal of me bumping the microphone at 1:06 it really came out well and by removing the sub frequencies mixing into my track will be a whole lot easier.

I now have 20 minutes of pretty good recordings to find the required samples to manipulate and create something beautiful. I can't wait to sink my teeth into this project you'll certainly see more about it here on my blog.

I really wanted to extract the birds from this recording, check out 0:39 it is brilliant and I can't wait to utilise this in my upcoming track.

Conclusion

This beast of a software suite has really changed the way I look at audio recordings. The ability to sculpt your waveform is incredible. Obviously it's always best to get the highest quality recording you possibly can. However, when there is no option it's a great tool to have in your engineers toolbox.
