Back to the Future Part 3

Another Saturday means another Saturday in the studio with Shay Jagger and Adam Higginson working on our Back to the Future project. Todays mission is ADR and the Paper fall as we call it.

Todays goals in the studio was to record the Paper falling off the shelf at the end of our scene as well as the skateboard and ADR. For this session we each brang in boxes, papers, bottles and the like to capture this wall of sound.

To record the paperfall here is our microphone selection:

Using the C24 console we set the microphones up from the audience perspective with the 2 overheads (sE4) positioned as if hey were the edge of the screen, the perspective mic (C414) as centre of the screen and lastly the creatively title floor mic (VMS)on the floor to capture the impact.

We stacked the boxes then pushed them over a few times then dropped each and every pice again on their own to record various noises to layer for the scene.

This is the aftermath of our exploits.

From here unfortunately I had to head off to a family engagement however, the boys kicked on knocking out some fantastic ADR using the sE4 microphone mounted a distance away from Adam to capture some natural reverb and put him in the space nicely. Here is the set up they used.

The boys really excelled themselves in my absence and have really set us up for this project. You can check out their blogs for information on the vocal recording Adam's Post, Shay's Post.

Unfortunately we were unable to record the skateboard during this session as all the portable recorders were booked out. So we've booked an Zoom H6 for Monday and will record this sound then before my next correlation session. All in all another successful session with these two lads everything went smoothly and we created some awesome assets for this project.
