Silence - DJ Amor & Doctor Duck
The Plan
Yesterday I sat down with local DJ Amor to work out a plan for our collaborative track called Silence. The inspiration came from a quote by famous conductor Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977).
“A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence. We provide the music, and you provide the silence.” - Leopold Stokowski.
The idea for the track is to experiment with a different type of workflow and focus on using only outboard analogue equipment. Check out my earlier post for the gear we will be using. We have really decided to stretch ourselves technically and get outside of our comfort zone. We will be first jamming for a few hours in the studio Amor on the drum machine and myself on the synthesiser creating a bass line. From this free jam session we will take the best and juiciest bits to try and create a track from.
We decided to use Chloe - The Dawn (Dixon Remix) as our reference track. Here it is in all its glory.

We will be teaming up with local graphics designer Sasha Bernardes to create something special. She has come onboard to do album artwork and a short animation for youtube. We have also convinced her to be the vocal talent for the piece.

The Team
Amor
Local DJ and Techno lover Amor is the one half of our production team. He has been a pleasure to work with and we have been able to bounce idea's off each other very efficiently to create a solid plan. He brings great energy to this project and a relaxed attitude that has already brought out the creativity in the team. Check out some of his work.

Sasha Bernardes
Sash brings the design aspect to this project. Having recently graduated from Griffith University she is already making a name for herself. She is designing a wonderfully techno animation for this project. She will also be adding vocal artist to her CV from this project feel free to check her out on Linkedin.

Coming from a trance background I will be stretching myself for this project and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Check out below for some shameless self promotion.

Moving Forward
Now that we have the team together and a solid plan in place it's time to get the ball rolling. We have 2 studio sessions booked this weekend to get the foundation of the track down before I head overseas. I am really excited for this project as it will be a great learning tool utilising Ableton, Logic and Protools as well discovering what is possible with analogue equipment in digital music.
